Comments & Ratings about this product
I recently watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and was pleasantly surprised by its strong steampunk elements. The film incorporated almost every steampunk concept imaginable, except for the classic top hat with goggles (although they may have made a subtle appearance in the background). While it may not be considered politically correct by today's standards due to the absence of any female characters in the cast, it did offer an intriguing message that remains relevant. Kirk Douglas's acting left much to be desired, but his character served as a clear allegory for American ideals and greed, while the French professor represented fairness and justice. Despite some problematic portrayal of Papua-Newguinean 'cannibals' (reflecting different times), there is even an exciting scene featuring a mini Kraken attacking the ship. Overall, I highly recommend giving this film a watch if you can overlook its flaws.
