Comments & Ratings about this product
The BFI didn't put a lot of energy into this set, as their main focus was introducing an overlooked French filmmaker. For audiences, it feels more like an educational experience to discover the unique and sometimes confusing style of this director. Regardless, it's definitely worth watching since preserving and restoring old films is important.
I gave this comment 4 stars for the captivating black and white films. However, I found A R-G's color films to be more like art than traditional cinema, making them a bit challenging to watch. Unfortunately, they seem to decline in quality as time goes on, and by the last film, N Rolled the Dice, it becomes difficult to continue watching. On a positive note, the Blu-ray version offers excellent quality and includes a wide range of interviews and extras. I spent a significant amount of time engrossed in these bonus features and gained valuable knowledge from them.
Alain Robbe-Grillet films are known for their non-linear narrative, snappy editing, unique sound effects, philosophical musings, and attractive young actresses. While there may be scenes of nudity, these films should be seen as avant-garde art rather than explicit content. So feel free to enjoy them with your partner without any concerns.
