The ContiVanContact™ 200 is a transporter specialist that has been designed for use in Western and Central Europe. With its sipes in the center of the tread and its grooves, it delivers safety even when driving and braking on rainsoaked roads. Its macro block profile and sturdy tread center deliver precise handling even under heavy loads – on top of which the tire also helps to save fuel thanks to a 15% reduction in rolling resistance (in comparison to the predecessor model). Straight away from the start of production, Continental will produce ten sizes that are suitable for rim diameters ranging from 15 to 16 inches and approved for speeds of up to 210 km/h.
Engineered in Germany, Continental offers premium tyres with optimum braking performance and safety. Trusted by leading car manufacturers, including for example the vehicle models Fiat Ducato, Iveco Daily and MercedesBenz Sprinter. Safe journey thanks to shorter braking distances on wet roads. Safe handling in all situations, even under heavy loads. Considerably reduced rolling resistance for lower fuel consumption and greater efficiency. New aqua grooves in the shoulder and sipes in the centre of the pattern create a windscreen wiper effect through the sipe edges. Safe handling in all situations, even under heavy loads. Thanks to the macro block tread pattern, there is improved contact with the road, and the pattern stabilisers increase the stability and rigidity of the tread pattern. Considerably reduced rolling resistance for lower fuel consumption and greater efficiency. A full silica compound with specially adapted polymers leads to reduced energy loss during the deformation of the tyre thanks to strong binding of the polymer chains to the silica.
The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012. With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decisionmaking aid.
Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safetyrelevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc. Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer.
These tests usually focus on further safetyrelevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.
