Comments & Ratings about this product
I hadn't seen this before, but I decided to give it a try. The animation is simple, possibly because of the intended medium. However, the style of the animation is sharp and moody, yet also lively and colorful when necessary, which adds to the drama. The new version of the theme tune is actually quite good and introduces some elements that Russell T Davies later revisits in subsequent years, including the first use of the TARDIS car alarm gag.
The Shalka villains aren't particularly memorable, but having Richard E Grant as The Doctor and Derek Jacobi as The Master brings a certain level of class to the production. It would be interesting if Big Finish could explore this combination further one day and allow this alternative 9th Doctor to have more adventures in time and space.
I didn't have high expectations going into this, but I was pleasantly surprised by both the episodes themselves and the special features on the disc. It left me satisfied enough to consider revisiting it again in the future.
