I first read this book in high school and the title always stayed with me. However, after 20 years, I had forgotten the storyline. Recently, I came across a Kindle deal for only 99p and decided to revisit some of my childhood texts. Now I understand why this book's title stuck with me - it tells a depressing and challenging story filled with death, mental struggles, racism, and misogyny that is truly memorable. Written in 1937, this book is well-crafted, engaging, short yet captivating. It explores a world where white rich men hold all the power while everyone else tries to find their place in between. It serves as a significant historical piece that will undoubtedly leave an impression on me once again.

As time has passed since its creation, this novel has gained even more poignancy. Personally, I found the story incredibly disturbing.

I read this novella years ago and recently bought it again after my grandchild mentioned they were reading it. It's a touching story about George and Lenny, two friends who travel from farm to farm in search of work. Lenny, who has special needs, relies on George for guidance and support. Although George sometimes gets frustrated with the challenges caused by Lenny, their companionship is rare in a world where most farmworkers are alone.

The book explores themes of isolation faced by different groups due to racism, misogyny, and disability. One character stands out as particularly mean and aggressive, while his flirtatious wife (known only as Curly's wife) unknowingly brings tragedy to the farmstead.

Overall, this novella is just as captivating as I remembered it to be.
