I purchased this screen capture device specifically for capturing the screens of old retro computers. The price was very appealing, so I decided to give it a try. However, I encountered some issues with it. Firstly, it does not record low resolutions such as 640x480; instead, it only displays a black screen. Secondly, when recording at higher resolutions like 1024x768, I experienced severe screen flickering which rendered the recordings useless. Unfortunately, the lack of tech support has left me without any assistance or resolution to these problems. Overall, this device proved to be completely ineffective for my intended use.
I visited the Startech.com/pexhdcap2 link and downloaded their software, but unfortunately, it consistently crashes my system. It seems that the software is not updated for Windows 10, as it only mentions compatibility with Windows 7/8/8.1 in various places. Additionally, Windows is displaying a security certificate complaint in the Device Manager. If I don't receive a response to my support request by tomorrow, I won't be returning to Startech. In the meantime, I've already purchased another external VGA capture device which fulfills my needs. - Steve
