Comments & Ratings about this product
I really enjoyed this unique and captivating story, which was a refreshing change from my usual preference for books set in the past. Imogen was a fantastic character, and I particularly loved the vivid descriptions of Hendaye and its surroundings. The author skillfully balanced suspense with moments of tranquility, making it a highly recommended read. The impact of Imogen's early experiences on her later life was well portrayed, and I hope she found some freedom from her demons. I look forward to exploring more of Sheila O'Flanagan's work when her other books become more affordable on Kindle.
This story was a departure from my usual preference for adventure and detective stories, but I couldn't put it down. It shed light on how abusers manipulate their victims, particularly in cases of mental abuse. It also highlighted the lengths an abuser will go to track down someone who has the courage to leave. This book truly opened my eyes, earning it a solid 4-star rating. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the outcome for the victim seemed a bit too perfect, which isn't typically realistic. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable leisure read that I appreciated.
This comment tells the story of a mentally abused wife who gains the courage to leave her controlling husband in Paris, where she had happy memories from her childhood. She proves to herself that she is not useless by finding accommodation, work, and making friends in the local community. When her husband eventually finds her and demands she return to Dublin with him, she stands firm with the support of her friends who are appalled by his statement about having control over her as his wife.
