Comments & Ratings about this product
As a long-time fan of crime fiction, I felt compelled to explore the Holmes and Watson series, which is undeniably where the detective genre truly began in its current form. This story takes place in London but also has connections to India, providing interesting perspectives on colonial Britain. The mystery may seem slow-paced by today's standards, but the character development is skillful and the portrayal of London at that time is truly delightful. If you enjoy mysteries, this book offers valuable insights into the genre's origins. While this edition may not be fancy, it provides everything you need at an affordable price. If you prefer a more comprehensive edition, there are other options available; however, this one should suffice just fine.
I have always been a fan of Sherlock Holmes in various TV and movie adaptations. His unique style of detecting has always fascinated me. Despite my usual dislike for writing from this era, I approached this story with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't drag on as I had expected. The story was shorter than anticipated, but it allowed for swift action, showcasing Sherlock's detective skills and introducing Watson's relationship with Mary Marsten. As my first experience with Arthur Conan Doyle's writing, The Sign of Four was a captivating read filled with mystery, intrigue, stolen gold, and elusive thieves. I will definitely be seeking out more Sherlock Holmes stories in the future.
I am currently studying this book in my English Literature class and have added it to my Kindle Library. The Kindle app allows me to conveniently read on my phone or tablet without the need to carry a physical book. I appreciate the feature that allows me to easily pick up where I left off on any of my devices. It's like having a whole library in my pocket! As for the book itself, it is a classic Sherlock Holmes adventure that I have previously seen in movies. However, now that I have studied it in depth for my English Lit class, I can better appreciate the historical references and understand the author's intentions.
