Comments & Ratings about this product
I wish there were warnings about the graphic content in this film. The depiction of kangaroos being shot and killed is distressing, and it showcases a significant amount of animal cruelty. The shots are not clean, resulting in prolonged suffering. Despite these concerns, the movie itself is well-made with excellent acting, filming, and an engaging story. However, it is crucial to include some form of warning due to the realistic portrayal of suffering animals.
This film is truly captivating, as it builds tension from the very beginning and maintains it throughout. The constant fear depicted in the title keeps viewers on edge, intensifying with each passing moment. While there are some graphic and distressing scenes, they serve a purpose in the overall storytelling. It is worth exploring the commentary or extras to gain insight into how this film was conceived and brought to life.
Interestingly, when initially released in the early 70s, this film faced criticism from Australian audiences who felt it did not accurately represent their culture. However, according to the filmmakers, the story is not specifically about Australia but rather about modern life and recklessness in general. The fact that the book it was based on was written by an Australian author explains its setting. This broader theme of representing all people comes through clearly in the film - it resonates with audiences worldwide.
There have been many positive reviews about WIF, so I won't repeat them all. However, I do have a small issue with the dual combo pack. In terms of picture quality, I couldn't notice any difference between the DVD and Blu-ray. While the overall picture is decent, the Blu-ray lacks the sharpness and detail that one would expect. It feels like I've purchased two DVDs when all I wanted was a good Blu-ray copy. Personally, I don't understand why they include a DVD in this package - who really wants it? Other than that, Eureka has done an excellent job with this release. Could it be possible that my Blu-ray disc was printed incorrectly? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
