Comments & Ratings about this product
The packaging was excellent, although there were no instructions included. Instead, I was directed to download them online using the provided address. The paperwork included some confusing information about a code on the side of the NAS that I couldn't locate. However, I managed to get it up and running by referring to a PDF guide. It connected seamlessly with my laptop, phone, and tablet without any issues.
I also set up an app for antivirus protection and video/picture drivers. Now, it even appears as an input option on my TV! The only downside is that some videos are in a format that is not supported.
Overall, I am highly impressed with this drive. I configured it in RAID mode to minimize the risk of data loss. Additionally, it sends me email notifications if there's a power outage or goes into sleep mode when not in use.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who can follow instructions from a PDF guide for setup purposes.
The user interface is user-friendly, but the process of setting up the cloud feature and connecting other devices to it can be confusing.
Box is a great option for beginners who want to protect their data and stream media on their own devices. However, as someone with technical knowledge who wanted to customize the settings for file transfer and storage in a more user-friendly way, I found the setup process to be frustrating. While it does offer features like Gigabit LAN and direct file access through explorer, finding the device can be difficult. Backing up from USB is possible if you install the app, and Plex and Twonky can also be installed for additional functionality. Changing hard drives physically is easy, but there are limitations when it comes to software adjustments. For example, attempting to switch from JBOD to RAID caused crashes multiple times and was not achievable while the drives were still installed. Overall, Box has potential but its user interface needs improvement; it feels like an unfinished project released by WD.
