Comments & Ratings about this product
The visuals and screenplay in the movie were exceptional, with some CGI that was well done. I would rate it 10/10 for visuals. The story was decent, considering the limited time of 2 hours to tell it, so I would give it an 8/10. However, the duels in the movie were not as well directed or played compared to the original anime, earning a rating of 5/10. It was great to see familiar characters from the original Duel Monsters Anime, and fans of that series will definitely appreciate their appearance. Personally, I would love to see a similar movie or remake for Yu-Gi-Oh! Gx.
I really enjoyed the movie, especially because it brought back the original characters from the 90's. I wasn't a fan of the GX and 5D's series, so this return to Yugi was great for me. I would give the movie a score of 4.5 out of 5, but there were some frames with slightly disappointing character design (only in a few parts of the movie). I preferred Tea and Bakura's art style from Battle City and thought they just needed a color improvement to fit in with the movie. One thing that bothered me was that we didn't see Evil Bakura in his original form, but rather as a hybrid of him and the main villain. If you've seen the movie Clueless, you'll understand what I mean when you look at their hair during the final duel. It would have been cool if there was something similar to Dragonball Super at the end (without spoiling it for those who haven't seen it yet), but overall, it was still a good product. And for those who prefer subtitles, they are available on the DVD/Blu-ray release.
The movie was okay, but it had room for improvement. The TV series was fantastic and this movie didn't quite meet that level of excellence. I'm looking forward to more Yu-Gi-Oh in the future, hopefully reaching the incredibly high standards set by the show in all aspects.
