I found the film to be a bit challenging compared to the exceptional book. The use of artistic license bothered me, especially because it diminished the impact of the ending. The book is such an incredible read that I would have preferred to hear more of Solomon's narrative in the film. However, some of his narrative is included in the extras, which only reinforced my opinion. Instead of leaving out major events and diluting and shortening Solomon's journey back, I would have preferred to see an epic film that told the whole story. Unfortunately, these omissions and changes ruined the entire film for me. On a positive note, the acting was superb and accurately portrayed the people based on Solomon's experiences with them as described in the book. It's unfortunate that having read the book made it impossible for me not to compare it with the film. As a result, I will never truly know how I might have defined this film without that comparison factor.
