Angels One Five [Blu-ray] [2015]

I first watched this movie on Saturday afternoon TV in the 1970s, and it has been a favorite of mine ever since. It follows the story of a young pilot who joins an operation hurricane squadron during the intense battle of Britain, leading to a poignant ending. The acting by the all-star cast is superb. I can never tire of watching it repeatedly.

This film is a typical response to a British child's question about what it was like during the war. It serves as propaganda, showcasing life on an R.A.F. Fighter Station and highlighting how the R.A.F. managed to hold their own despite being outnumbered by the Luftwaffe. The film avoids discussing the true horrors of war, instead providing a glimpse into the lives of those who lived through it. Additionally, it emphasizes certain rules for that time period, which may now be seen as clichés - such as maintaining a stiff upper lip and using amusing euphemisms rather than speaking bluntly. Despite not addressing all aspects of war, I personally enjoyed this film and would watch it again. As someone who grew up in the 1950s, I understand what they were trying to convey even if they didn't explicitly say it in the movie.
