I absolutely adored this film. I loved it so much that a few nights later, I convinced my partner - who hadn't seen it before - to watch it with me again. If you appreciate unique and unconventional movies, especially ones with puppet animation, then you will definitely enjoy this one. Writer/director Charlie Kaufman also skillfully explores the complexities of the human experience throughout the film.
The plot of the film may not be extraordinary, but the end result is truly bizarre, often uncomfortable, and constantly on the edge of being disturbing. I can't quite put my finger on what I got out of it, but it was exceptionally well-crafted. The animation and voice acting were top-notch, and I appreciated the attention to detail. It's definitely not suitable for family viewing, but renting it for £1 and watching it with a friend is worthwhile just to have someone to share in the profound confusion.
This film delves into the unsettling disruption of a monotonous life when a man embarks on a conference trip, hoping to revive an old relationship and engage in an extramarital affair. The use of stop-motion animation may not appeal to everyone, but it adds cleverness and is crucial to the dramatic impact. I personally rate it 4 stars, although my viewing companion disliked it.
