Audition Blu-Ray

The movie Audition, directed by Miike Takishi, is often labeled as a horror film. However, for 70 out of its 110 minutes, it actually focuses on romance and drama. The plot revolves around a man who has lost his wife and is encouraged by friends and even his son to remarry after seven years. His TV mogul friend suggests a new show called Audition to help him find a potential partner. Eventually, he chooses a woman who turns out to be more than she seems.

Audition delves into psychological abuse and physical violence while weaving a complex web of secrets and innuendo. The film's success largely relies on the exceptional performance of lead actor Ryo Ishibashi, who portrays his character with sympathy throughout the story. Although it may be considered slow-paced at times, the payoff in the end is satisfying. While not as graphic as some of Miike's other works, Audition still manages to have a strong impact on viewers.

The disc was in excellent condition and functioning perfectly. The case showed minor wear on the bottom corner of the spine, which is understandable considering it is made from cardboard and has been used over time.

I felt that the action in the movie was slow-paced and it provided only average entertainment value. However, I appreciated the more unique plot, which is always refreshing considering many stories have a similar style. To enhance engagement, it would be better if there were fewer interruptions with subtitles diverting attention from the visuals.
