I stumbled upon this movie while watching documentaries on animals, religion, and life in Africa. Given the ongoing discussions about sexual abuse within the Catholic Church, I thought it would be intriguing to see how individuals who attended a Catholic school perceive it. However, I found the portrayal a bit exaggerated and unrealistic. It was difficult for me to believe that attending a Catholic school could lead someone to become a drag queen or struggle with drug addiction and transgender identity to the point of contemplating suicide. Nevertheless, overall, it was an emotionally charged film that shed light on an important contemporary issue.
The film explores a platonic love between two children that becomes increasingly intense when the church discovers it. While the movie touches on themes of pedophilia and sexual abuse, it does so without explicit details. The non-linear storytelling may be occasionally tiring, but it is not overly complex. In conclusion, this thought-provoking film is highly recommended.
