The DVDs in the original version and the 2005 edition are exactly the same. However, the original version is cheaper and comes in a unique book-style packaging that sets it apart from the conventional approach of this version. There is nothing wrong with this product, but there is simply a superior version available that will save you ten pounds. It may be worth considering if you prefer a more traditional presentation, although please note that the price has recently increased slightly compared to the original packaging.
I am extremely pleased with this box set. It exceeded my expectations, although I would have loved to see more stories like Nicholas Nickleby and others included. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all 8 stories, even though Pickwick Papers took some time to get going. However, it was definitely worth the wait. The only story I had seen before was David Copperfield, but it was great to revisit it. This version of Oliver was a delight to watch and far superior to the musical adaptation that I disliked and could never sit through for long. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be Martin Chuzzlewit - I absolutely loved it! Overall, every penny spent on this Charles Dickens box set was well worth it. My only wish is that the BBC would do the same with Shakespeare's works; I would be first in line to purchase them. Without a doubt, I highly recommend this box set - it is a must-buy item.
