I am extremely frustrated with this DVD. I purchased it for my 15-year-old who is preparing for a LAMBDA audition and needed to study a piece spoken by Coriolanus towards the end of the story. Unfortunately, the DVD did not include the complete text written by Shakespeare and left out two important four-line pieces. This was very disappointing as we were hoping to get some guidance on how to properly deliver the words. In my opinion, if parts of the text are omitted, then there is little value in producing such a film at all.
I had higher expectations for the actors in this film, but it seems like the directorial decisions may have hindered its potential. There were significant opportunities to present a timeless story that honored history, the original text, and our modern understanding of the emotional toll of war. However, in my opinion, these opportunities were not fully explored. It is disappointing considering that talented actors like Ralph Fiennes could have delivered much better performances. It makes you question why they invested in such talent if they weren't going to utilize it effectively.
