Brenda Myers-Powell's work with the Dreamcatcher Foundation is truly inspiring. She helps girls and women in Chicago escape prostitution and overcome their past abuse. Brenda doesn't pretend to be a saint; she openly acknowledges her own troubled past and how she caused harm to others. However, through her recovery, she has become a strong woman who can genuinely relate to these women because she has been in their shoes. Brenda has dedicated her life to Dreamcatchers, but it's clear that the weight of responsibility sometimes feels overwhelming for her. The stories shared by the women featured are incredibly moving and highlight a world so different from my own experiences. These women have endured violence, rape, and molestation as if it were normal, trapped and exploited by men. One former pimp is even featured, who himself had a dysfunctional upbringing. It's heartbreaking to see this cycle of damaged lives repeating across generations. This documentary is definitely worth watching as it provides both education and illumination on these important issues.
