The 1997 movie featuring the character Snake Plissken is considered inferior to its predecessor, "Escape from New York," released in 1981. Despite attempting to reboot the classic storyline, it falls short and lacks the same impact. However, surprisingly, this 90's film is not terrible and can be an enjoyable watch for fans of Snake. It may be worth considering watching or even purchasing if you are a fan of the character.
The highly anticipated sequel to Escape From New York is essentially a remake set in Los Angeles. I am a huge fan of Snake Plissken, who is an incredibly cool character, which is why I give the film 4 stars. While it does borrow heavily from the original New York film and some of the special effects may appear cheap, I personally don't mind because Kurt Russell's performance makes it worth watching. The Blu-ray version only includes a trailer as an extra feature. However, considering that this film is 18 years old, the transfer quality is good with no visible debris or scratches. There is some film grain present but it isn't overwhelming. If you are a fan of this movie, then purchasing the Blu-ray edition would be a worthwhile investment.
I finally got around to watching this film after being recommended by a friend. As a big fan of the original, I had high expectations. Although it didn't quite capture the same atmosphere as New York, I still found it enjoyable. The runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes was just right, with plenty of action to keep me engaged. I particularly liked Peter Fonda's role in the movie. Overall, if you're looking for an affordable option and are interested in Carpenter and Russell's work, this film is worth checking out. I would rate it a 6.5/10.
