Chad and his band deliver more polished rock for the radio in this album. It is heavier and contains fewer ballads compared to their previous release. I was concerned that they were heading towards a pop sound like Linkin Park, but thankfully this album takes a different direction. It offers good riffs, catchy choruses, and exciting moments that will make you want to sing along and pump your fist in the air. Overall, it is closer in style to "Dark Horse" rather than "No Fixed Address". Definitely worth giving it a listen.
As a lifelong Nickelback fan, I believe this album is their strongest since Silver Side Up. It deviates from their usual cheesy songs about sex and drugs, with only one slow ballad that stands out as one of their best. The album also addresses the current political turmoil with tracks like Feed the Machine and Must be Nice, along with the slightly weaker but still good Silent Majority. For the heavy songs, For the River shines with a brilliant guitar solo from a guest guitarist. Among the less heavy tracks, Home takes the lead as the standout. Unlike some of Nickelback's love songs that can come across as whiny and simplistic, Home showcases thoughtful lyrics that are relatable and refreshingly self-deprecating. Overall, I absolutely adore this album.
