After an unsuccessful attack, three soldiers are left stranded in no man's land. One of them is severely injured, and they are now attempting to make their way back to their own lines.
Forbidden Ground is a remarkable Australian-made WWI film that rivals the excellence of Beneath Hill 60, despite its low budget. It shares similarities with the impressive US-made WWI film, The Lost Battalion. Set on the Western Front in 1916, it follows three British soldiers trapped in No Man's Land as they struggle to return to their own lines. The film creates a dramatic and tense atmosphere, particularly at night amidst shell smoke and poisonous gas. However, one minor drawback is the inconsistent British accents of the Australian actors. Nevertheless, Forbidden Ground delivers a powerful story with meticulous attention to detail and authentic explosions, mud, and grime without relying heavily on CGI. I would confidently rate this film four and a half stars out of five - definitely worth watching!
