Fractal Design Core 2500 – A Compact ATX Mid Tower Masterpiece
The Fractal Design Core 2500 is engineered for enthusiasts who demand a blend of high airflow, cooling efficiency, and sleek aesthetics without compromising on space. This mid‑tower case supports the full range of modern motherboards – ATX, Micro‑ATX, and Mini‑ITX – making it an ideal chassis for both powerful gaming rigs and streamlined workstation builds.
Dimensions & Build Quality
Measuring 195 mm (width) × 431 mm (height) × 450 mm (depth), the Core 2500 offers a compact footprint while still accommodating generous hardware. Its sturdy construction features a brushed aluminium finish that not only looks premium but also dissipates heat effectively. The case weighs approximately 5.7 kg, striking a balance between portability and structural integrity.
Cooling & Airflow Optimisation
The Core 2500 is designed with cooling in mind. It includes two 120 mm silent fans pre‑installed, positioned to create an efficient front‑to‑rear airflow path. Additional fan bays are available: three 120/140 mm slots on the side and a single 140 mm rear slot, allowing users to expand cooling solutions as needed. The case’s internal layout promotes unobstructed air movement, ensuring that even high‑performance components stay within safe temperature ranges.
Drive & Expansion Support
Storage flexibility is a key feature: the chassis supports four 3.5" drive bays, one 2.5" internal bay, and two external 5.25" bays for optical drives or additional peripherals. This configuration accommodates up to 16 TB of storage when using standard hard drives, making it suitable for data‑intensive workloads.
With seven expansion slots, the Core 2500 can house multiple GPUs (up to a maximum length of 380 mm) or other PCIe cards. The motherboard tray is designed to support ATX motherboards up to 162 mm in CPU cooler height, ensuring that even large air coolers fit comfortably.
Front & Rear I/O Accessibility
The front panel offers a clean, functional layout: one HDD activity LED, headphone out, microphone in, power LED, power button, system reset button, and two USB 3.0 ports. The rear I/O includes standard connectivity options such as audio jacks, USB 3.0 ports, and a robust power supply location at the bottom of the chassis.
Water‑Cooling Ready
For users who prefer liquid cooling solutions, the Core 2500 is fully water‑cooling ready. The case’s design includes mounting points for radiators and supports a wide range of radiator sizes. Coupled with its excellent airflow, this makes it an attractive choice for custom water‑cooled builds.
Audio & Connectivity Features
The chassis provides built-in audio input and output jacks on the front panel, allowing easy connection of headphones or microphones without the need for additional adapters. This feature is particularly useful for gamers and content creators who require quick access to audio peripherals.
User‑Friendly Design Elements
- LED Indicators: HDD activity LED and power LED provide clear status feedback.
- No Side Window: The absence of a side window keeps the focus on performance rather than aesthetics, reducing potential heat ingress.
- Manual Included: A comprehensive user manual is provided to guide assembly and configuration.
Compatibility & Versatility
The Core 2500’s support for ATX, Micro‑ATX, and Mini‑ITX motherboards makes it a versatile choice across various build types. Whether you’re assembling a high‑end gaming machine or a compact workstation, this case accommodates the necessary components while maintaining optimal airflow.
Conclusion
The Fractal Design Core 2500 stands out as a meticulously engineered mid‑tower case that prioritises cooling performance and component flexibility. Its brushed aluminium finish, silent fan inclusion, extensive drive bay options, and water‑cooling readiness make it an excellent platform for builders who demand both power and reliability in a compact form factor.

This case is perfect and easy to mount. It has a well-designed layout that perfectly accommodates my RAID and modular power unit. In my opinion, it is the best case in this range.
I needed a case that could accommodate 4 HDDs and a 120mm CPU cooler, and this one was perfect. The installation process can be a bit tricky, but it's fairly straightforward if you have experience building PCs. It's worth noting that there is no soundproofing, so if noise reduction is important to you, this may not be the best option. However, for a regular PC usage, it works well.
