Premium Build Quality
The chassis is constructed from high‑strength steel with a matte black finish that resists fingerprints and scratches. The interior features a modular layout: removable side panels allow easy access to components while the front panel can be swapped for a tempered glass or acrylic view if desired.
Sound Dampening
Fractal Design has incorporated acoustic foam into the rear fan mount and along the top of the case. Combined with rubberized fan brackets, this design significantly reduces vibration noise, ensuring that even high‑RPM fans operate quietly.
Cooling Flexibility
The Define S offers a wide range of cooling configurations:
- Front Fans: Three 140 mm fan mounts (one pre‑installed) allow for high airflow intake. Users can choose between standard or low‑noise fans.
- Rear Fan: One 140 mm mount with a pre‑installed fan provides efficient exhaust.
- Top Fans: Three 120/140 mm mounts or one 180 mm mount for larger radiators. The case supports up to 240 mm radiators on the top, ideal for AIO liquid coolers.
- Bottom Fans: One 120/140 mm mount for additional airflow or a radiator mount for bottom‑mounted cooling solutions.
Water‑Cooling Compatibility
The case is pre‑wired with mounting points for top and bottom radiators, making it straightforward to install a 240 mm or 360 mm AIO unit. The internal layout keeps the radiator clear of cables, preserving airflow.
Storage Options
With five hot‑swap bays (three 3.5″ and two 2.5″), users can store multiple SSDs or HDDs without compromising space for other components. The remaining drive slots are secured with screws, ensuring stability during heavy use.
Drive Compatibility
- Maximum of three 3.5″ drives (approx. 8.9 cm each)
- Maximum of five 2.5″ drives (approx. 6.4 cm each)
Expansion and Connectivity
The Define S provides seven full‑height expansion slots, allowing for multiple GPUs or other PCIe cards. The front I/O panel includes:
- 2 × USB 3.0 ports for high‑speed data transfer.
- Audio in/out jacks and a headphone out for easy connectivity.
- Power button with LED indicator and system reset button, both illuminated for quick identification.
Cable Management
A dedicated cable management area behind the motherboard tray keeps cables organized. Velcro straps and tie‑down points help maintain a clean interior, which not only looks professional but also improves airflow by preventing cable clutter.
Power Supply Placement
The case supports standard ATX power supplies up to 170 mm in depth. The PSU is mounted at the bottom of the chassis, allowing for a lower center of gravity and easier cable routing.
Supported Power Supply Sizes
- ATX (standard)
- Mini‑ITX (if using a smaller PSU)

Removing the hard disk case at the front of your computer provides more space and improves airflow. You can still mount 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives behind the motherboard, so there is no need for the traditional hard drive case. If you are building a new machine, I highly recommend using NVME drives for booting. By eliminating the hard disk case, you also enhance airflow throughout the entire case. In my experience, with an i7-8700K processor and a GeForce 980 graphics card, both components remain cool in this case thanks to the included pull fan at the front and push fan at the back. I am currently using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Air Cooler, but this case also supports water cooling if needed in the future. Despite heavy usage attempts, I have never seen either my CPU or GPU exceed 50 degrees Celsius in temperature.
I had no prior experience when I started building my PC, but the case turned out to be quite helpful. Although the instructions were not perfect, they did have separate sections for each component, which made things relatively easy. The case itself appears to be very sturdy and has a minimalist design that I really like. Additionally, the airflow is excellent, and my temperatures never get too high. The fans are also surprisingly quiet compared to those in my PS4, which is a great feature. Moreover, the case came with excellent cable management options including plenty of straps and attachment points for cables. Overall, I would definitely recommend this case to anyone building their first PC or looking for a discreet yet visually appealing option with a large window to showcase their internal components.
