The movie was decent, but the English dubbing was lackluster. If it had been well subtitled, I might have given it 4 stars. Despite depicting a grimy version of near-future Tokyo, the film managed to be visually appealing. The animation quality is typical for 90s anime, although not as polished as Studio Ghibli films. The story was engaging and raised interesting questions about humanity and artificial intelligence. It's worth watching as a piece of cinema history and for its influence on The Matrix trilogy.
I was disappointed by the new live action version of Ghost in the Shell. While it had impressive visuals, the plot felt bland and unoriginal. I wish I had seen this animated version first, as there are noticeable similarities and differences between the two. Despite hearing positive reviews (though they may have been referring to the entire anime series rather than just this film), I expected more from it. The animated version was better, more interesting, and had more substance than its live action counterpart, but it still didn't completely blow me away or make the live action one seem like a travesty.
The film adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga, Ghost in the Shell, is a remarkable and captivating portrayal of the future. It skillfully incorporates futuristic elements onto older architecture, creating a visually stunning world. The Blu-Ray conversion flawlessly captures these intricate details, enhancing an already brilliant storyline.
