I successfully quit smoking 20 years ago using Allen Carr's methods, which were relatively painless and effective. Since then, I have remained a non-smoker. When I came across this book, I thought of applying the same techniques to my relationship with starchy carbohydrates and sugary foods. My main concern is the risk of diabetes, especially after experiencing an unexpected heart attack in 2017. Although the writing style in this book can be quite loud and repetitive at times, it is still easy to read. The core messages are solid, following the same method as quitting smoking, and the steps are straightforward to follow. The book primarily focuses on understanding how our minds perceive things we believe we cannot live without but are actually harmful to us. Once you grasp that concept, success is within reach!

I believe the main goal of this book is to provide valuable information about sugar and its impact on health, while also challenging your perspective on the subject. However, I found the repetitive nature of the content and constant emphasis on "BAD SUGAR" in capital letters to be somewhat monotonous. The book aims to recondition your thinking about sugar consumption.

Initially, I was expecting specific guidance on dietary choices before realizing that the focus was more on reconditioning. The recommended approach suggests incorporating raw foods such as fruits, uncooked vegetables, seeds, and nuts into your diet while reducing carbohydrate intake and limiting protein consumption. The idea is to obtain necessary sugars from fruits instead.

While I appreciate this approach, I find it somewhat unrealistic for everyday family life situations. It's not practical for me to sit down with my family for a traditional Sunday roast and eat a chicken leg alongside uncooked vegetables when everyone else is enjoying cooked versions. Personally, I am naturally healthy and prefer following a diet consisting of salads, fruits, nuts, and seeds. This way of eating helps me feel comfortable without indulging in unhealthy food options.

I have struggled with my health and weight for years, and recently realized that my relationship with sugar was unhealthy. I decided to find some books to support me in making a change, and that's when I discovered this book. While it does cover information I already knew and can be repetitive at times, it explains things clearly and positively. Surprisingly, this simple book has helped me make significant progress in the right direction. Within days of starting it, I stopped eating when not hungry, improved my sleep, started eating healthier foods, and broke a lifelong habit. If you acknowledge your problem with sugar and are committed to fixing it, I highly recommend this book without hesitation. However, if you're only looking for a quick fix for summer weight loss, this may not be the right choice for you.
