I was pleasantly surprised to find that the novel Holding is much more intriguing than its television adaptation, despite Conleth Hill's portrayal of P J Collins being enjoyable. It feels like the production team lacked faith in the audience's ability to appreciate the subtle nuances and intricacies of the main characters. Personally, I preferred the book because it delves deeper into the story. The series, however, was well done and entertaining. Unfortunately, it seems that nowadays there is a tendency to change genders and ethnicities just to meet certain criteria for screen representation. Thankfully, Mr Norton avoids this trap by staying true to his talent as a writer and not turning his novel into a movie treatment. Overall, Holding offers an engaging tale set in small town Ireland that readers can truly enjoy.
