I purchased this film after seeing it in theaters because I wanted to watch it again and share it with my family. Upon rewatching, I found that it was even better the second time around. The story is based on true events and offers a thought-provoking reflection on the significant political changes that have occurred in South Africa. Prior to the film's release, I had visited Cape Town and had the opportunity to explore Robin Island, District 9, and some of the townships. This movie not only provides entertainment but also educates and inspires its viewers. Even if you are not a rugby fan, don't let that deter you from watching as the central performances and storyline go beyond just sports. If you enjoy Morgan Freeman's performance in Shawshank Redemption or appreciate Matt Damon's understated roles, this film is worth buying. Additionally, if you are interested in exploring the complexities of the human condition or simply want an enjoyable afternoon activity, I highly recommend purchasing this movie.
As a South African living in the UK, I was introduced to this film by my English friends and found it incredibly inspiring. Growing up in both the old and new South Africa, watching this movie reignited my pride in being African and having had the privilege of experiencing life in SA during Mandela's leadership. The film beautifully captures his passion for reconciliation, his remarkable forgiveness, and his ability to unite the diverse nation he envisioned while imprisoned. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who needs a reminder that true heroes still exist - individuals who prioritize integrity over power and the well-being of others over personal gain. It is truly a masterpiece!
I'm not a fan of sports, especially football, rugby, and cricket. However, I absolutely loved this film. Nelson Mandela is known for being an inspirational figure, but this movie showed just how truly inspiring he was. Sometimes in life, people's accomplishments aren't fully recognized or appreciated until after they're gone. It's unfortunate that it took the making of 'Amazing Grace' for me to learn about William Wilberforce's incredible fight against slavery. Thankfully, he did receive a standing ovation from politicians eventually. I'm grateful that this historical event was faithfully portrayed during Mandela's lifetime so he could see how much his country owes him. The film also showcased how rugby helped unite a previously divided nation - it was brilliant!
