Jane Eyre is a classic novel written by Charlotte Bronte and first published in 1847. The story follows the life of Jane Eyre, an orphan who is taken in by her Aunt Reed at Gateshead. She is later sent to Lowood charity school where she endures a cruel regime. Despite the hardships she faces, Jane emerges unbroken in spirit and integrity.
The novel follows Jane as she takes up the post of governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets and falls in love with Mr. Rochester. However, their happiness is threatened by a dark secret that Mr. Rochester keeps hidden. The story transcends melodrama to portray a woman's passionate search for a wider and richer life than that traditionally accorded to her sex in Victorian society.
This edition of Jane Eyre is part of Penguin's beautiful hardback "Clothbound Classics" series, designed by the award-winning Coralie Bickford-Smith. These delectable and collectible editions are bound in high-quality colorful, tactile cloth with foil stamped into the design.
