The Radio Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Paavo Järvi, recently presented a program of symphonic works by contemporary composers, including Widmann, Kagel, Furrer and Ruzicka. This performance was a unique opportunity to enjoy the music of these composers, who are often little known outside of academic circles.
The first work of the evening was Widmann's Symphony No. 4, a work of great scope and depth. This symphony is an exploration of the duality between light and darkness, and the orchestra played it with great sensitivity. The music unfolded fluidly, with a great variety of nuances and a wealth of detail. The orchestra managed to capture the essence of the work, and the result was an impressive performance.
The orchestra then performed Kagel's "Music for a Party". This work is a celebration of life, and the orchestra performed it with great energy and enthusiasm.
