I selected this as a gift for my partner, who is now 75 years old but still young at heart. In his younger days, he was always thrilled by Glynis Johns' voice. Therefore, it was an incredibly delightful surprise for him this Christmas.
Glynis Johns delivers a hilarious performance in this light-hearted comedy. Her character is endearingly scatterbrained, always eager to assist the less fortunate but inadvertently causing chaos along the way. The men accompanying her try their best to prevent further trouble as she flits from one mishap to another like a carefree butterfly. Prepare for plenty of laughs with this highly recommended film.
Describing this film as a comedy is misleading, as is the title. It may give the impression that Josephine (Glynis Johns) is a philanderer. Finding a suitable title for the film has been challenging, perhaps "The Mothering Instinct"? The film does have a serious side to it, and the humor feels forced at times, especially towards the end. It should not be compared to Sinden's earlier films in the "Doctor" series, where he excelled in both comedy and tragedy. Peter Finch is not typically associated with comedy. The picture quality of most color films from this period is slightly fuzzy. While it may feel drawn-out at times, I've seen worse films.
