Comments & Ratings about this product
The series enhances the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe storylines by delving into Agent Phil Coulson's backstory and exploring the backgrounds of other characters. Each episode becomes increasingly captivating with the revelation of Skye/Daisy's parentage. Through cunning schemes and counter-maneuvers, ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Grant Ward emerges as one of television's most detestable villains. The second season solidifies the cast members' performances in their respective roles. The video quality remains consistent with the first season, while surprisingly, the audio quality surpasses that of MCU movies on Disney-released blu-rays. The only drawback to this otherwise outstanding blu-ray set is its limited special features, which include only bloopers and deleted scenes.
This series is ABC's hidden gem. It starts off slow in the first season but really picks up after the events of Captain America Winter Soldier. The storyline becomes darker and more brutal, but it's worth investing your time into. There are plenty of references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and some connections to the movies as well. My wife and I are now fans and enjoy watching it together. The fact that we eagerly await each new episode and discuss the finale shows how high-quality this show is. While you can jump in at any point, starting from the beginning is recommended since there are ongoing story arcs throughout the seasons. Don't be discouraged by its slow start - stick with it because it's definitely worth it!
I would give the series 5 stars if I were just reviewing it. The second series continued tying up loose ends from the Marvel films, particularly Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, as a BluRay release, Marvel has disappointed with the lack of extras on this set. The back of the box promises "uncover classified secrets with never-before-seen bonus features that draw you deeper into the mysteries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe," but all you get is 10 minutes of deleted scenes and a 3-minute blooper reel. It's a complete disappointment compared to season one which had commentaries, documentaries, and VFX featurettes. If you're going to promise "never-before-seen bonus features," please deliver them, Marvel! It's worth noting that the DVD box does not have this advertised on it.
