Introducing the extraordinary Matilda - a child prodigy whose intellect goes unnoticed by her parents. Mr and Mrs Wormwood are too preoccupied with their own trivial pursuits to take any interest in their daughter's remarkable abilities. However, this does not deter the young girl from honing her skills. By the age of three, Matilda has taught herself to read by studying newspapers and magazines that lay around the house. At four years old, she is reading fast and well, and her hunger for knowledge leads her to seek out books. Unfortunately, the only book in the house belongs to her mother, which she reads from cover to cover and memorizes all the recipes. Matilda's brother Michael is a normal boy, but her sister is something else entirely - by the age of one and a half, her speech is perfect, and she knows as many words as most adults. However, instead of being proud of their daughter's achievements, Mr and Mrs Wormwood dismiss her as a noisy chatterbox who should be seen and not heard. But Matilda will not let anyone stand in the way of her dreams. She is determined to make her mark on the world, regardless of what others may think or say about her. And with her unwavering determination and incredible intellect, there is no doubt that she will succeed.
