Nostalgia [DVD]

I give one star to the Blu Ray, not the film (which is a masterpiece). Unfortunately, Artificial Eye has once again mishandled this classic film and lazily released a heavily DNR'd version. If you don't believe me, check out the DVD Beaver site. It's disappointing that they would release these films on Blu Ray when they end up looking worse than the DVD. Just like their Stalker release, I advise against purchasing this Blu Ray as the DVD will provide better quality. It's truly a shame.

I had a disappointing experience with the DVD version of this Artificial Eye print. Although the picture quality was decent, it was slightly blurry. However, the sound quality was extremely poor. The soundtrack had a constant hum and occasional loud noise, as well as consistent snapping, crackling, popping, and hissing sounds. Overall, it did not meet my expectations. :(

The stream quality was excellent, with noticeably better sound compared to the Kino blu ray. There was no annoying hiss present. Additionally, the film itself was fantastic. Despite not receiving as much recognition as Tarkovsky's earlier works, Nostalghia clearly showcases the influence of Stalker and Mirror. It is evident that this film demonstrates an artist evolving and refining their craft.
