Only Lovers Left Alive [DVD] [2014]

What does it mean when a relationship lasts for centuries, while the world around it constantly changes? Jim Jarmusch's film explores this concept of eternal love in a romantic, erotic, and darkly funny way. Tom Hiddleston delivers a wonderful performance as Adam, a reclusive and suicidal character, while Tilda Swinton shines as Eve, his wife who fully embraces eternity. The supporting cast is excellent in this sophisticated art house take on vampires - no sparkles here! However, if you're looking for fast-paced action and plot twists, this may not be the film for you. It is slow-paced and focuses more on style and character development. But if that's your thing, I highly recommend it.

We had no prior knowledge about the film, and it was not what we expected. Unlike Twilight, this film does not romanticize vampires. However, in my opinion, that is a positive aspect. The movie focuses on a group of people whose way of life is fading away. It is not an action-packed film with running, jumping, and shooting scenes. The pace might be slower than some prefer, but I found the acting and direction to be good. The characters lead a gritty lifestyle that has its own appeal. Although the plot has some loopholes that are easy to spot, this film offers a unique take on vampire stories. While it may not receive universal acclaim like other films or their soundtracks do, if you're interested in watching a different kind of vampire movie, give this one a try. Personally, I enjoyed it and would consider watching it again but don't feel the need to own the DVD version.
