I really loved this film. It has a distinct British feel and strikes a balance between sentimentality and rawness, while maintaining a genuine heart. The entire cast is fantastic, especially the younger actors, but Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy deliver their usual exceptional performances. However, I must give special recognition to Jessica Gunning, an actress I was not familiar with before this film. Her character Sian truly embodies compassion and her presence shines in every scene she appears in.

Even for those who didn't experience or remember this period of history, there is plenty to reflect upon. My 18-year-old enjoyed it so much that they recommended it to me. You don't need to be well-versed in history or have any particular political stance to understand the cruelty and humanity depicted during the miners' strikes. This film showcases the pride and anger that united people from all backgrounds.

Overall, this film resonates deeply even today.

Living near Dullais, I was intrigued to learn about the local history depicted in this comedy drama. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how moving and impactful it turned out to be. This film beautifully captures a range of emotions - from tears of joy to sadness and laughter - all within one captivating story. It explores themes of compassion, community, support, and acceptance as a gay and lesbian campaign group raises funds for Welsh miners during the 1984-85 miner's strike.

After watching the film, I found myself slightly puzzled by its 15 rating. The content is generally mild, with only a minor incident involving something found in a bedside drawer that may raise eyebrows. In truth, I have seen more explicit things on shows like Come Dine With Me. Personally, I believe a 12A rating would be more appropriate since there are some challenging topics covered (such as AIDS and homophobia) that parents may want to discuss with their children after viewing the film.
