Red Shoes

Initially, I was skeptical about buying this CD since I already own most of Kate's CDs. However, after reading reviews, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. But the title and picture intrigued me, so I decided to give it a chance. I played it constantly in my car and became familiar with the songs to the point where this album is now my favorite.

"Song of Solomon" is a masterpiece, along with "Lily" and "Red Shoes." Kate's imagery, like being "on top of the angel's shoulders," is superb. There are many fantastic tracks on this CD that I highly recommend. It feels so fresh that it's hard to believe it was recorded over 10 years ago.

I agree with an earlier reviewer that you need to listen to the CD multiple times before fully appreciating it. Once you do, there's no going back. Thank you, Kate, for creating such an underrated gem with Red Shoes!

This album, alongside Aerial, is one of my favorite Kate Bush albums. The quality and clarity of her voice on this record are unmatched. During the making of The Red Shoes, Kate was going through a difficult period in her life which prevented her from overproducing the album like she has done with some of her other works. As a result, there is a rawness and vulnerability to it that is incredibly moving. She later reworked some tracks for The Director's Cut, but in my opinion, particularly Rubberband Girl, they were completely ruined. Despite criticism from music journalists and even Kate herself not being overly fond of it (possibly because it is so honest and emotionally revealing), I believe this album is a masterpiece that should not be overlooked.

This is easily my favorite Kate Bush album, and I discovered it only recently, about a month ago. Her voice sounds incredibly expressive in the lower notes, and you can tell she put a lot of emotion into this album. While I appreciate some of her popular hits for their quality, this album and The Sensual World truly showcase her talent as a true artist. Surprisingly, no one else seems to have mentioned it, but I absolutely love "It Must Be Love." Every time I hear the opening bars, it gives me chills. Overall, all the tracks on this album are wonderful, although "Rubberband Girl" might be the weakest in my opinion. Personally, I believe that this version of "Moments of Pleasure" is stronger than her own revised version in Director's Cut because it includes a couple of vital lines that were left out. It's worth noting that I am listening to the remastered version which may be important based on other reviewers' comments.
