This comment beautifully captures the emotional depth and complexity of the film. It draws parallels to 'Immortal Beloved' by highlighting how both movies explore the foundation and backstory behind two tales, Mary Poppins and the creation of the film itself. This adds a deeper appreciation for the emotional aspects portrayed. Overall, it is a gentle tour de force that leaves a lasting impact.
My wife and I accidentally watched the film over two evenings, which may have influenced our opinion. We didn't think much of the first half and weren't eager to watch the second. However, we had a more positive reaction to the second half due to the exceptional acting of the girl who played young Mrs. Travers. Towards the end of the film, Tom Hanks's performance really stood out, whereas earlier it was mostly Emma Thompson playing a difficult Englishwoman testing Walt Disney's patience. The ending was predictably emotional, but that's expected considering Mary Poppins' story as depicted in Saving Mr Banks. I plan on watching the film again, but my wife will definitely rewatch Mary Poppins instead.
