I absolutely adore books by Lesley Pearse, especially Faith, Father Unknown, and the incredible Belle trilogy.
I highly recommend reading Survivor if you have already enjoyed Belle and The Promise. These two books provide background on Mariette's parents, Belle and Etienne, before they embark on a new life in New Zealand after World War I. Survivor takes place in New Zealand just before the outbreak of World War II and then moves to England, offering a unique perspective on living through the Blitz and the sacrifices made for one's country. To fully appreciate Survivor, it is best to read the other two books beforehand.
Survivor is the third book in a trilogy featuring Belle and her daughter, Mariette. While it primarily focuses on Mariette, who possesses the same strong-willed nature as her mother, it also explores their relationship. In order to escape the troubles of her small New Zealand town, Mariette is sent to live with family friends in England. However, she becomes trapped there when World War II breaks out. Despite this challenging situation, Mariette's experiences ultimately shape her character for the better.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Lesley Pearse's books, and Survivor is no exception. Each moment I spend reading them is an absolute delight, as Pearse consistently delivers captivating stories. Survivor is filled with unexpected twists and turns in Mariette's life that kept me guessing throughout. I am eagerly anticipating Pearse's next book after such a fantastic read.
