The Catcher in the Rye is a novel written by J.D. Salinger, first published in 1951. He also experiments with alcohol and drugs during his time in the city. Throughout his journey, Holden is accompanied by his sister Phoebe who helps him recover from his debauchery.

The book is written as a flashback, with Holden narrating his experiences to the readers. It explores themes such as teenage alienation, the struggle against an artificial world, and the search for authenticity in life. The use of blunt and offensive language adds to the strong emotions experienced by the protagonist throughout the novel.
