I initially didn't watch The Crow Road when it aired because I didn't think it would be my type of show. However, after reading Iain Banks' novel years later, I realized how wrong I was in judging it. The story, which combines coming-of-age, family saga, mystery, and love elements, completely captivated me and has become one of my favorite contemporary fiction pieces.
The BBC adaptation of the novel is a great example of how to successfully adapt a literary classic. While some details are naturally missed out on, the plot remains intact and the narrative is clear even with flashbacks. One interesting and successful aspect is the imagined conversations between Prentice and his missing uncle Rory.
The production values and acting throughout the adaptation are consistently high quality. Overall, I found it excellent.
