This Latin story book is a great resource for practicing Latin reading, especially if you already have knowledge of the language or are studying it with your kids. The text has been transcribed from the original story, making it an authentic reading experience. It will be particularly useful for vocabulary building and children who have an advanced knowledge of Latin, such as 10-year-olds. However, I'm not sure about the benefits of reading this to its intended audience of 5-year-olds in Latin.
This classical reinterpretation of The Gruffalo is a fascinating addition to any Latin library. I only wish my Latin skills were stronger so that I could fully appreciate the nuances of the translation!
The book is well-made, with high-quality paper and vibrant colors. However, I had hoped to introduce my two-year-old daughter to Latin using this book, as I have been reading her the Gruffalo since she was a few months old. Unfortunately, it is more of a retelling of the story with changes made by the translator. It seems that these changes were made for the sake of rhythm or rhyme, but as a result, the meanings in the Latin text differ significantly from the original English text that we have both memorized. For instance, parts that involve dialogue in English are presented as monologues in Latin. Therefore, it will not serve as an effective bridge for learning Latin like I had anticipated.
