Opinions on The Lamb album are divided, with some loving the concept and others finding it hard to digest as a double album. Personally, I believe it is a mixed bag, alternating between brilliance and absurdity. Disc One outshines Disc Two, particularly the first few tracks leading up to the classic rock of 'In the Cage', which are superb. However, the rest of the album struggles to consistently reach those heights again. Nonetheless, there are still standout moments such as 'Carpet Crawlers', the well-structured 'Anyway' featuring a rare Hackett guitar solo showcasing his exceptional skill, and 'The Lamia' - a beautiful ballad that builds up to an impressive climax. The closing tracks have their ups and downs, but 'Slipperman' stands out with its great keyboard solos. Additionally, the remastering of this album is top-notch; in my opinion, the depth and quality of sound are superb. Overall, I highly recommend purchasing this album for Genesis fans.
After owning a CD copy of this album for a while, I decided to purchase the vinyl version. I have already scanned the CD onto my computer for easy access on my phone, car, and other devices, but I wanted an LP copy specifically for playing at home. There's something special about sitting in the living room and listening to it on my HiFi system. The act of physically turning over the LP or changing the disc and watching the stylus track the groove brings me pure delight.
When reading about its original release, I learned that Peter Gabriel found writing and recording this album to be a stressful experience. However, the end result is truly remarkable. With each play, you discover new elements and unexpected twists that are like peeling back layers of an onion.
Whether you choose to buy it on vinyl or CD, make sure to enjoy Genesis at their best with this incredible piece of music.
