The Odyssey is an extraordinary poem filled with pleasures. It is a salt-caked, storm-tossed, wine-dark treasure chest of stories that are full of twists and turns, just like life itself. This epic tale follows the journey of Odysseus as he tries to make his way back home after fighting in the Trojan War. The story takes place over ten years, making it one of the earliest and greatest works of Western literature.

Comments & Ratings about this product
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Iliad a few years ago, and since then, I have been eager to delve into the post-Troy narrative of Odysseus' epic journey back home. It was definitely worth my time and highly recommended in my opinion.
I purchased this book for my classics lesson, but unfortunately it arrived slightly damaged. However, the damage is minimal and does not hinder my ability to read it. The cover of the book has some scrapes along the edges and scratches on the sides, which is a bit disappointing as it gives the appearance of an older book. Overall though, I am satisfied with my purchase.
After recently sailing the Greek Islands, I found Homer's company to be invaluable. This edition includes enlightening introductions, prefaces, and explanations that I highly recommend reading before diving into the narrative, especially if you are new to this wonderful book. My only concern is with EV Rieu's translation, which seems to have removed some of the poetic language and description that I had anticipated. Perhaps his attempt to make the text more accessible went slightly too far. Nonetheless, it remains a fantastic and delightful tale.
