I really enjoyed the film, its message, and Stephen Fingleton's screenplay. However, I want to caution those who may be sensitive to serious and depressing subject matter to avoid it. Martin McCann delivers a strong performance as The Survivalist, living a secluded life in the forest where he grows food and hunts for sustenance. His peaceful existence is disrupted when Kathryn and her daughter Milja arrive seeking food. In exchange, Kathryn offers her daughter for sex, which poses a dangerous situation for The Survivalist who has abstained from such relationships for years. It's important to note that this film contains explicit sexual content that is not suitable for viewers under 18 years old.
This comment explores the theme of survival in a unique and thought-provoking way. It challenges our preconceived notions about who the survivalist is, going beyond physical survival to delve into the legacy characters leave behind after death. The film's philosophical nature makes it a standout, especially considering its limited budget and small cast. Notably, Mia Goth delivers an impressive performance in only her second film appearance.
