The Wiz [DVD]

I'm a huge fan of Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, so seeing them together in a movie was truly magical. Their chemistry was exciting and they both did exceptionally well in their roles. I loved the creative take on The Wizard of Oz, from the set pieces to the character designs. Even reimagining Dorothy as a young school teacher worked perfectly. However, my only minor criticism is that Evillina should have been introduced earlier in the movie to establish her as the main villain. It felt odd for her to only appear towards the end.

Unfortunately, this DVD version of the film does not include any bonus features such as 'Behind the scenes', 'Blooper Reels', or special content. It only includes the film itself. However, I am still searching for a Special/Collectors Edition of this film because I love it so much. On a positive note, you do get to see rare performances by MJ and Dianna Ross that are not glamorized or influenced by Hollywood hype. Their rendition of the Yellow Brick Rd song is a funky and catchy track that will have you singing along for days after watching it, just like I did when I first saw this film years ago and still do now.
