The film was brilliantly balanced, with contributions from both Japanese and American filmmakers. It also had plenty of action, making it an excellent watch.
It's truly mind-boggling that this film flopped at the box office and resulted in the firing of the entire film crew. The special effects are absolutely astounding, especially considering there is no CGI involved. This film is an incredible piece of cinematography history.
I always cross my fingers when upgrading from a standard DVD to a Blu Ray these days. However, this time it was definitely worth it. While it may not meet the standards of modern Blu Rays, considering the film stock is over 50 years old, I find this BR version quite impressive. The visuals can be inconsistent at times but are consistently better than a standard DVD and often very good. What truly stands out is the sound quality, which I would say is on par with the best. If you're a fan of this film, the upgrade cost is well worth it. My 5-star rating goes to both the BR conversion and the film itself - a true classic that remains engaging despite being based on historical facts. Just for reference, I watch this on a high-end 4K OLED TV with a Sony 4K BR player and listen through a Yamaha AV receiver with good 5.1 speakers - just to give some context!
