I have watched this movie multiple times and it never fails to captivate me. The acting is exceptional, and the seamless blend of German with subtitles and English is executed flawlessly. The storyline revolves around WWII and the intense submarine warfare beneath the sea. However, what truly takes center stage in this film is the internal struggle between individuals at war, even when faced with monumental challenges. Despite deep-rooted animosity, minds eventually come together to find a solution, showcasing that hope prevails for those who think with both their hearts and minds. This movie also highlights how unexpected friendships can emerge amidst the horrors of war.
This action movie is fast-paced and keeps you engaged throughout. The story's credibility may be questionable, especially for non-submariners like myself. However, the picture quality is sharp and the sound is excellent, especially if you have a 5.1 surround sound system. One downside is that a significant portion of the film is spoken in German, so English subtitles are necessary unless you understand German. I haven't explored the special features yet, but considering its current discounted price, it offers much better value for money compared to The Last Starfighter.
The film is decent as long as you can overlook certain aspects. It portrays the US as the sole victor of the war and introduces the enigma machine without prior knowledge. The claim of subtitles is misleading, as it only includes hardcoded translations when American characters are speaking German.
