Comments & Ratings about this product
I'm almost finished with Ulysses, only 100 pages left. As an Irish person, I find the language and phrases familiar since they were commonly used by my father's generation. While I may not fully understand what Joyce intended or if it is based on the Greek Ulysses, as an ordinary person, I believe Jimmy did a great job in portraying how we think and how our conversations flow. For example, he could have Mr. Bloom thinking about one thing for several pages and then suddenly switch to a completely different thought on a new line. In conversations between characters, the subject can change without warning, just like in real life. My interpretation of Ulysses may be off, but that's how I see it.
I struggled to read the book, so I can't provide an opinion. Hopefully, you'll have better luck with it.
If you prefer a straightforward and logical storyline, this book may not be your cup of tea. However, if you appreciate the beauty of language and enjoy immersive reading experiences, this is the perfect choice for you. It's like listening to pure music - a treat for the senses. Approach it with an open mind and without any preconceived notions. If you're easily offended or conservative in nature, it might be best to steer clear. Personally, I find it overflowing with a genuine passion for life and all its chaotic moments.
