I found this series to be better than the first, which is unusual. The detectives are both likable and have a strong relationship, which is also uncommon. Their decency provides a positive contrast to the grim subject matter of the show. The first series focused on unsolved murders in the seventies, while this one progresses to the eighties. If there is a third series, it will likely be set in the nineties. The only part that I find unconvincing is the sub-plot involving Cassie's father, but we can overlook that. The acting is top-notch and the ending has a clever twist. However, I have doubts about the credibility of the very last scene.
This drama was incredibly gripping and held my attention from start to finish. The story flowed smoothly, but I must warn you that there are spoilers ahead if you plan on watching this series.
Throughout the show, the main suspects consistently lied whenever they were questioned by the police. One of them, a Muslim woman, not only deceived the authorities but also her own husband throughout their entire marriage. It is important to note that lying goes against the principles of being a true Muslim.
As it turns out, these three suspects had taken matters into their own hands and killed three individuals who had sexually abused them in their youth. While it is understandable that they sought justice for what they endured, it is never justified to take the law into one's own hands.
Disappointingly, none of them faced charges for their crimes as the show came to an end. This conclusion left me feeling unsatisfied with how things were resolved.
This DVD series, NO 2, is absolutely superb. The cast, script, and directing are all deserving of the highest praise. The harrowing drama described in this series would have made Shakespeare jealous. The penultimate scene will stay with me and my wife forever. The protagonists' contemplation on whether prison would be justified for the victims was both moving and logical. It raises an ongoing debate about punishing individuals when their suffering has already been excessively destructive. Maybe we should consider returning to the old Saxon wergild system, especially considering our overcrowded prisons here and likely in the UK as well.
